DESCRIPTION:
The current research of the Center includes the sub-topic of integrated multidisciplinary national project in the field of biomechanics, specifically orthopedics. They deal with gait analysis aimed at identifying knee injuries, their diagnosing with a non-invasive method and applying artificial intelligence methods for sub-classification and final verification through surgical procedures and postoperative rehabilitation. In order to fully create the methodology, they included gait analysis not only of patients with knee injuries but also of healthy people, so that the artificial intelligence system could «learn» to differentiate between the model of healthy gait.
Through this project, sustainable and fruitful cooperation has been achieved with orthopedists and other medical experts as users of research results. After the verification of the model, an applicable softvware was developed, installed and used at the Clinic for Orthopedics and Traumatology in Kragujevac.
When a knee injury occurs outside clinical centers and cities, e.g. in rural areas, it is possible to apply the mentioned methodology through a video recording of movement and gait, in order to make a preliminary diagnosis and analysis of the injury.
In cooperation with the University Clinical Centre in Kragujevac, members of the Center, as engineers, had access to operations, to apply 3D digitization (scanning) during open knee surgery, and based on that they developed an augmented reality application.
